Dear Dr. Murley:
This letter is in response to IE Bulletin No. 84-02 "Failuren of General Electric Type HFA Relays In Use in Class lE Safety Systems."
We have reviewed the relays in use at Indian Point Unit No. 2 and have determined that there are no GE Type HFA relays in safety related applications.
In addition, we have reviewed the general concerna described in the bulletin.
We have concitaded that they do not apply to Indian Point 2 mince we previously modified relays having these general concerns, including relay coil burnout (coil style 1271C50G01 in relayn 5072A49-C-XX).
The modification includes improved baked coils, coil style 1293C51G01 with improved insulating material, to prevent binding of the relay plunger in the coll.
These relays do not have the problems discussed in the bulletin, nor have they failed at Indian Point.
Additional replacements and a replacement schedule are not recuired an the performance han been found to be satisfactory.
