Dear Mr. Collins:
h River Bend Station Unit I Docket No. 50-458 Final Report /DR-171 Gulf States Utilities Company (CSU) has completed its evaluation of DR-171 concerning the flow adjustment subassembly on Model Number 1284 Robertshaw thermostatic flow control valves on the jacket water cooling system for standby diesel generators supplied by Transamerica Delaval, Incorporated (TDI).
It has been determined that failure of the assembly would cause overcooling of the engine. However, overcooling vill not prevent the engine's performance or its ability to carry out its safety function. GSU has concluded the safe operations of the plant would not har-been adversely affected, since the valves are failsafe; therefore, this condition is not reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).
Rosemount has since modified the design of the overrun assemblies and TDI recommended that the overrun assemblies be replaced. The replacement parts have been ordered under Purchase Order No. 12210-26637 and replacement will take place when the parts are received.
Sincerely,
/%fs -
