Dear Administrative Judges:

In accordance with the disclosure requireraents of the Commission, I am enclosing the October ~ 4 letter from Mr.

Cordell Reed to Mr. Harold Denton. Mr. Reed's letter indicates that Commonwealth Edison Company has begun its regular periodic review of the construction status of Braidwood Station, and it appears at this time that the scheduled service dates will be deferred by no more than one year. Counsel will apprise the Licensing Board of the final results of this review upon its completion.

No progress has been made with respect to this case since the prehearing conference was held in 1979. My efforts to get the case' moving in early 1984 through discussions with the intervenors failed because our disparate interests do not permit compromise on matters concerning the hearing schedule and the admissibility of pending and revised contentions. In failing to settle these matters, the parties necessarily must rely on the positions already briefed and pending before the

. Licensing Board for decision. In my view no meaningful prog-ress will be accomplished in this case until the Board acts on these matters. Therefore', I respectfully urge the Licensing

Dear Mr. Denton:

Reference (a) provided the Commission with the fuel load dates towards. our for Braidwood Units 1 and 2 that we are currently working The purpose of this letter is to advise the Commission that the Commonwealth Edison Company has begun its regular periodic review of the status of our Braidwood units under construction.

This review is not expected to be completed until late in the year.

Based on the information currently available, however, Commonwealth Edison presently expects that at the conclusion of the review, the scheduled service dates for our Braidwood Units 1 and 2 will be deferred by no more than one year.

We will advise the Commission of any revised service dates that may result upon completion of our review efforts.
