' Gentlemen:
Attached for your information is an updated status of 1984 licensing items identified in Alabama Power Company's letter dated August 30, 1984. This attachment is tabulated chronologically by Alabama Power Company's requested NRC approval date. Alabama Power Company is ready to discuss modifications to this status to address all licensing issues.
During recent conversations with the NRC Project Manager, it was requested that critical outage-related licensing items be specifically identified in the attached licensing status.
Items 19, 21, 22, 23 and 29 have been so noted and the NRC staff is requested to act upon them by the date indicated, but no later than one month prior to the respective Unit's refueling outages which are scheduled to connence in January 1985 for Unit 2 and April 1985 for Unit 1.
Such scheduling provides sufficient time' for the procedural changes necessary to implement the approved License Amendments prior to each refueling outage.
It should be noted that the original intent of the licensing status letter mechanism was to identify, for NRC and Alabama Power Company scheduling purposes, the required approval dates. The above designated critical items have been submitted in accordance with the standard NRC review time requirements. During periodic discussions, Alabama Power Company has been advised that the NRC Staff has been working to meet the 8410160007 841010

Since several critical outage items have not been completed as requested, the licensing items have been re-prioritized in the attachment.
Originally, Item 27 of the attachment requested NRC approval of an
-administrative change to allow a portion of the auxiliary feedwater t
surveillance testing to be performed during power operation (vice during shutdown) by October 10, 1984. An unscheduled Unit 2 outage obviated the need for the October 10, 1984 approval date; however, approval is now required by January 17, 1985 to preclude a Unit 1 plant shutdown for
. the sole purpose of surveillance testing.
