Dear Sir:
Subject:
Requests for Schedular Extensions for Environmental Qualification of Certain Electrical Components at Vermont Yankee In accordance with the provisions of 10CFR50.49(g), Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation hereby requests schedular extensions for certain electrical components required to be qualified prior to startup from our present 1984 refueling outage in accordance with the provisions of 10CFR50.49. A list of these components is provided in Enclosure 1.
We are requesting schedular relief for these components until no later tht.n startup from our 1985 refueling outage, which is scheduled to commence in early September 1985.
This schedule will insure that necessary components are deli-vered and that component replacements can be made in a timely manner.
For each of the components listed in Enclosure 1, we have included a reference to a Justification for Continued Operation (JCO) previously submitted to you in Reference b). The numbers listed in Enclosure 1 correspond to those used in Reference b).

VEllMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWEll CORPORATION Tha basis for our request is twofold. First, certain components are yet to be received from the associated vendor, and we cannot guarantee that they will be delivered in time for replacement during our present refueling outage.
Secondly, we have embarked on a detailed verification / validation program to ensure that all Environmental Qualification (EQ) Program-related components are installed consistent with the associated qualification documentation. This phase of our overall program has identified certain deficiencies which cannot reasonably be addressed given our present restart schedule. dif-ferentiates between those components yet to be delivered versus those where deficiencies have been identified as a result of our verification / validation effort.
It should be pointed out that we will make every reasonable attempt to pur-sue delivery of necessary components and install them prior to our scheduled restart (August 6, 1984).
In addition, it should be noted that our verification /
validation effort is still continuing and may ider.tify additional component deficiencies which cannot be corrected prior to our scheduled restart.
It is our present intent to provide you with a supplemental list of component schedu-lar extension requests in approximately two weeks. That submittal will also indicate any components identified in Enclosure 1 for which a schedular exten-sion is no longer necessary.
We trust that the information provided in Enclosure 1, coupled with the Justifications for Continued Operation provided in Reference b), provide an ade-quate basis for your approval of our schedular extension requests.
Because your review and approval of our requests is required prior to restart from our pre-sent refueling outage, we request your expedited review and approval of these requests.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact us.
Very truly yours.
