Subject:

Limerick Unit 1 Non-Licensed Operator Training Readiness Schedule

Dear Mr. Starostecki:

This letter is submitted as an update to the operational readiness schedule date for Non-Licensed Operator (NLO) Staff Training.

An internal audit of our Non-Licensed Operator (NLO)

Training Program revealed that a small portion of the training for NLO's as designated in FSAR Section 13.2 was not properly documented from the Basic Academic Training Program given to the non-licensed operators.

As a result of this finding, the Nucle.ar Training Section of Philadelphia Electric Company decided to repeat certain portions of the NLO Training Program to complete the FSAR classroom instruction commitment.

Therefore, it will be necessary to revise our estimated date for completion of this training to November 9, 1984.

This final phase of NLO training, entitled NLO Continuing Training, was started in late May 1984 and is presently continuing on a six-shift operator rotation until its targeted completion November 9, 1984.

Because of the benefit to these individuals from involvement with operating shift at this time, it was not desirable to condense or shorten this classroom training.

Feedback from the NLO's has indicated that maximum training benefit is being received from weekly sessions as they assimilate this system knowledge and actually apply it to their jobs on shift.

This 3-week NLO Continuing 8410100770 840917 i

' Training. course discusses LGS systems in greater detail and helps to reinforce shift knowledge level and does not really provide training on subjects which the NLO's have not been exposed to before in some manner.

As training records are accumulated weekly in this course for the NLO's, your examiners would still have the opportunity to monitor progress of this program.

The LGS -

Nuclear Training Section will accumulate all records associated with this NLO training when it is completed in early November m

1984.

Very truly yours, 3
