SUBJECT:

Peach Bottom License ~ Amendment Application submitted April 19, 1984

- I De'ar.Mr.-Stolz:

This letter provides clarification of the analysis

~ provided with-our April 19, 1984, License Amendment Application regarding justification of the current reactor water level trip setpoints.

The clarification was discussed with the Peach Bottom-Project Manager and others of the NRC staff by telephone'on September 6, 1984.

It was requested that this-information be formally submitted in the format of a revision to the second paragraph on page 7~of.the April 19,11984, Application.

Accordingly, this paragraph is revised to read as'follows:

"The proposed changes to the reactor water level setpoints maintain the low-low level (level 2)'and low-low-low levels (level 1) at 490 and 378 inches above vessel zero, respectively.

The dimensional change -

asso :iated with the new fuel design is considered in the Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) reload evaluations Lfor, Peach Bottom 2 and 3.

The values for low-low and low-low-low setpoints used in.the ECCS analysis, 486.5 and 366.4 inches above vessel zero, respectively,-

provide' sufficient margin to compensate for instrument error and calibration accuracy.

Additionally, there is an allowance for setpoint drift between the nominal trip setpoint of the instrument and the Technical Specification setpoint value."
