dated June 20, 1991.

Subject Requent for Additional Information.

This letter is submittad to request a schedule extension for responding to the NRC Request for Additional Information (RAI) forwarded by Reference 1.

As stated in our letter of July 25, 1991, information has been solicited from the turbine vendor in an effort to respond to your questions.

After our initial submittal of July 25, 1991, a schedule delay became necessary in order for the vendor to evaluate the destructive turbine overspeed event which occurred at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station Unit No.

2, on November 9, 1991.

This initial schedule extension from December 28, 1991 to February 14, 1992 was verbally accepted by the NRR Project Manager on Dc^ ember 19, 1991.

The turbine vendor was not able to provide the information requested before February 14.

Thus, an additional schedule extension to May 15, 1992, is hereby requested for responding to Reference 1.

This extension is necessary to allow time to complete the evaluation of the Salem

event, collect and organize the basic data needed to perform the turbine overspeed probability calculationc for Deaver Valley Power Station Unit 2, and to prepare a response to Reference 1 based on the results.

Should you have any questions regarding this request, please contact Mr. Ken McMullen at (412) 393-5214.
