Mr. James P. O'Reilly SPR 84-001, Supplement No. 2 Page Two June 12, 1984 EVENT DESCRIPTION Special Report (SPR)84-001 was submitted by the Licensee on February 9, 1984, documenting voluntary entry into Action Statement (a) of Technical Specification 3.7.10, " Fire Rated Assemblies," by opening the fire doors to the Chilled Water Pump Rooms on January 10, 1984.

Supplement No. 1 to the subject report was submitted by the Licensee on March 30, 1984, stating that analytical work involving the Chilled Water Pump environment had been completed to the extent that, by review of the existing equipment qualification, the Licensee is able to demonstrate a qualified life of eight (8) years under design conditions. Additional analysis and testing was expected to be completed by May 30, 1984, to resolve the questions of 40 year equipment qualification and safety hazard determination per 10 CFR 21. Because of difficulties encountered following the Spring Outage, March 23 to April 22, 1984, in getting the Plant back on the line and stabilized at 100% power and the failure of one of the chiller units, the target date of May 30 was not met.

Contingent upon repair of the chiller unit, the additional analysis and testing by Nuclear Engineering is expected to be complete by July 15, 1984.

ACTION TO BE TAKEN A supplementary report will be' submitted July 30, 1984, addressing the 40 year qualification and the substantial hazard determination issues.
