Dear Mr. Youngblood:
Reference:
(1)
Fermi 2 NRC Docket No. 50-341
Subject:
Fire Brigade Retraining Detroit Edison requests that an extension be granted to allow Fermi 2 fire brigade members, whose tw'o-year rein-struction is due prior to December, 1984, to maintain their
-status as active brigade members until December, when the required classroom instruction can be conducted.
Presently, all fire brigade members who had received initial classroom training from July,1982 through November, 1982 are required by FSAR Section 13.2.5.2 to attend a two day refresher course prior to December, 1984 (i.e.,
within two years of initial instruction).
The current requalification and training program / schedule for operations and non-operations personnel does not allow for fire brigade training until December, 1984.
The affected fire brigade members will continue to attend the quarterly fire brigaae training seminarc but are not able to support an earlier two-year reinstruction course (i.e, prior to December, 1984) due to other training (e.g.,
licensed operator requalification) and job responsibilities.
The requested extension would allow the subject fire brigade members to remain " active" by taking the refresher course in December rather than requiring that they repeat the initial classroom work previously attended in 1982.
Independent of whether or not the subject brigade members are granted an extension of their present " active member" status, Fermi 2 will have the required fire brigade staffing available to comply with the requirements of 10CFR50, Appen-dix R.
Subsequent to the December, 1984 retraining, Edison does not anticipate any difficulty in maintaining the prescribed biannual retraining schedule.
