Vogtle Electric Generating Plant-Units 1 and 2, 50-424, 50-425; Quality Concern Involving Erroneous PT Records Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
On April 24, 1984, Mr. C. W. Hayes of Georgia Power Company reported a potential deficiency to Mr. John Rogge of the USNRC.
This potential defi-ciency involved an incident where an individual is suspected of falsifying liquid penetrant inspection reports.
Georgia Power Company is currently evaluating past work performed by this individual.
To date, a reinspection has been conducted of c11 PT work performed by the indivioual from approxi-mately thirty days prior to discovery of the problem. A total of 147 welds were reinspected and nine of these were rejected for various reasons, most of which appear to be minor indications of a nature normally resolved by technicians during the testing process. Nonconformance Reports have been written on the rejected welds and submitted to engineering for evaluation.
The results of the engineering evaluation will be used to determine if fur-ther investigation and evaluation is required and to develop a schedule for completion of necessary actions.-
No estimate can be made at this time of when a final report will be submitted to the NRC.
Georgia Power Company will provide a schedule to the
'NRC for the resolution of this concern on or before August 3, 1984, e
