Vol. IV, No. 30 Ext. 8197 Date June 7, 1984 In a memo to Division Directors dated June 7 GPU Nuclear President Philip R. Clark made the following announcement:
I am pleased to announce that Franklin Standerfer will join GPU Nuclear as Director TMI-2 about July 23, 1984, reporting to the Office of tne President.
In that position he will during August replace Mr. Batrnan Kanga, who will transfer to another assignment witnin Bechtel.
Mr. Standerfer has had extensive experience in the management of nuclear resea ch and development and project activities, including: decontamination of shutdown nuclear facilities, nuclear materials handling and processing, production reactor operations, radioactive waste management, developmental reactor design and construction, and large contract administration.
In his most recent position as Assistant Manager for Defense and Energy Programs' at the DOE's Ricnland Operations Office, he supervised the refurbisment and return to operation of the Purex nuclear fuel processing plant.
He was also responsible for tne management of defense nuclear waste at the Hanford site and was the Governmant official responsible for the overall technical direction of the Pacific Nartnwest Laboratoryra multt-program research and develipment laboratory. Tne programs he supervised had annual operating oudgets totalling more tnan 5500 million.
Mr. Standerfer has a degree in Cnemical Engineering from the University of Washington and attended the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology and the i
Federal Executive Institute. During his federal service ne was tne recipient of many Senicr Executive Service act.ievement awards.
I am confident that Mr. Standerfer's oackground and demonstrated abilities as a tecnnical manager will enable nim to respond effectively to tne many difficult tasks comprising tne recovery operations of TMI-2.
