Construction of Unit 2 is 33.4% complete. There was no
' construction on CCNS Unit 2 during the reporting period. All activity on Unit 2 was for the purpose of protecting the investment.
Work _on the. Energy Services Center (ESC) was completed during o
the reporting period.
Vehicular Movement No "off limit" violations were observed during the reporting e
period.
Dust Control ~
No dust control violations were observed during the reporting o
- period, t
Smoke Control e_
Thsre were six smoke control viola'tions'during the reporting l period.- These violations involved exceasive emissions from the burn pit.
e The Mississippi Department of Natural Resources conducted an opacity training session during the reporting period. The.
training session was attended and successfully completed by all Environmental Surveillance Program personnel. With this training and continued cooperation with MP&L Construction personnel, the opacity violations at the burn pit should continue to decline.
Erosion Control Rainfall was recorded on 42 separate occasions during the e
reporting period, with an accumulated rainfall of 35.10 inches. Runoff samples were collected on 16 of these instances and returned to the Environmental Surveillance Laboratory for suspended solids analysis.
Noise Control No excessive noise control violations were detected during the e
reporting period.
Attachm:nt to AECM-84/2-0006 Page 2 Chemical and Solid Waste Control e
Dielectric fluid from electric transformers used at GGNS were sampled and analyzed for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs). No PCBs were detected.
o Approximately 1140 gallons of non-PCB oil spilled from the 21B Unit II transformer onto the ground in the main west laydown area.- Some of the oil from the spill entered Sediment Basin A.
Cleanup was completed in a timely manner with no adverse environmental impact.
Environmental Surveillance Program personnel are working to e
facilitate disposal of hazardous waste being stored at GGNS.
An Electro-Hydraulic Control (EHC) fluid spill occurred during e
the reporting period. A containment and cleanup effort prevented any of the EHC fluid from leaving the station. Over 200 drums of water and EHC fluid were collected for disposal.
Petroleum-based material is being disposed of in the Bechtel oil pit after separation from the water.
e A small leak of Nalco 39L was discovered in the MP&L
' Warehouse. The spill was quickly contained and cleaned up.
Regional Groudwater Dewatering e
The 12 regional groundwater wells and 15 perched aquifer wells were read during the reporting period.
e Several changes of over three feet were observed in the regional groundwater during the reporting period. The changes can be associated with a rising and falling Mississippi River and heavy rainfalls. None of the changes appear to be permanent.
o The perched aquifer wells were read monthly during the reporting period. There were no instances where the design maximum groundwater level of 109.00 ft above Mean Sea Level (MSL) was exceeded during the reporting period. The Unit I dewatering pumps were repaired and put into operation during the reporting period.
Vegetation e
No vegetational abnormalities were observed during the reporting period.

- A' Timber Management Plan is:being developed by MP&L to foster-e productive management of Company held land. GGNS lands are included in_this master plan. A selective harvesting program will be implemented.to facilitate maximum growth potential in
' forested. areas surrounding CGNS. Undesirable tree species will be removed to allow development of desirable hardwood
-species.
Transmission Lines e
A semiannual aerial survey of GGNS-associated transmission lines was conducted during the reporting period. No major erosion problems'were evident.
Sediment Basins A & B e
No-problems were encountered with either basin during the reporting period. Silt accumulation is rapidly building up at the influent end of each basin..The buildup appears to be helping.the basins because of a natural bridging effect which allows sediment to settle out more quickly.
