POINT REngH_HMQMjhR PLANT. f)MIT_R Wigconsin Electric Power Company is currently preparing our third interval inservice inspection (ISI) program for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 2, as required by 10 CFR 50.55a(g) (4) (li).
The 10-year inservice inspection requirements, for the second inspection interval for Unit 2, are expected to be completed prior to September 30, 1992.
The updated Unit 1 inservice inspection program, for the third inspection interval, was prepared in accordance with the 1986 Edition of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI.
The program was submitted to your office via Wisconsin Electric letter, dated December 20, 1990.
This edition of the Code was selected as required by 10 CFR 50.55a(g) (4) (ii).
Due to the amount of time that is required to prepare the Unit 2 program for the third inspection interval, the development of the program began in January, 1991.
10 CFR 50.55a(g) (4) (ii) requires that inservice examination of components comply with the most recent edition of ASME Section XI that has been incorporated by reference in paragraph 10 CFR 50.55a(b), 12 months prior to the beginning of the inspection interval.
Currently, the 1986 Edition of ASME Section XI has been approved by the "RC and incorporated by reference-in 10 CFR 50.55a(b).
For this re. son, the Unit 2 ISI-program is being prepared in accordance with the 1986 Edition of ASME Section XI.
If a later edition is adopted prior to September 30, 1991, significant changes may need to be made to the program, currently under development, in order to upgrade it from the 1986 Edition to the later edition of the Code.

July 23, 1991 Page 2 In order to maintain continuity among the two units at Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Wisconsin Electric is preparing the updated Unit 2 inservice inspection program, for the third inspection interval, in accordance with the same edition of the Code as that used for Unit 1, (i.e., 1986 Edition).
It is our intention to complete the preparation of the Unit 2 inservice inspection program in accordance with the edition of ASME Section XI currently referenced in 10 CFR 50.55a(b).
If a later edition is approved by the NRC before September 30, 1991, Wisconsin Electric will submit a request for relief, pursuant to 10 CFR 50. 55a (g) (5) (iii), to permit the use of the 1986 Edition of the Code for the third inspection 1*-*erval of Unit 2.
