Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. I Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 NRC Bulletin 88-11 by letter dated May 2, 1991 (TAC No. 72110), the NRC approved a leak-before-break (LBB) analysis of the Beaver Valley Unit 1 (BV-1) presaurizer surge line piping which allows the shims to be removed from the surge line pipe whip restraints.
However, this approval was contingent upon the condition that the pressurizer surge line satisfies NRC Bulletin 88-11.
Prior to this approval, the BV-1 pressurizer surge line satisfied NRC Bulletin 88-11.
This was accomplished by meeting the ASME Section III code requirements for stress and fatigue for the 40 year plant design life with the limitation of a 200*F delta temperature between the pressurizer and hot leg imposed during pressurizer bubble formation and collapse.
The LBB analysis was performed to justify removal of the shims from the surge line whip restraints and to allow the 200'F limitation to be discontinued.
This LBB analysis was approved by the May 2, 1991 NRC letter and its supporting safety evaluation.
Therefore, during the current
- outage, the BV-1 pressurizer surge line whip restraint shims will be removed and the 200*F limitation discontinued.
The pressurizer surge line will continue to meet ASME Section III requirements after this modifica. ion is completed.
