In our previous correspondence on this issue, Georgia Power Company indicated that we did not have a test schedule for our snubbers and that we would advise the NRC on or about May 18, 1984, when a final report on this issue could be expected.
At this time, Georgia Power Company is forecasting a completion date of July 20, 1984, for the final report to the NRC on this issue. On this date, Georgia Power Company will advise the NRC if this issue has been concluded to represent a reportable deficiency.
Georgia Power Company had received one hundred and fifty-one (151) shock arrestors of sizes PSA-1 and PSA-3 at the construction site. These units were returned to Pacific Scientific for testing on January 6, 1984. These units have been tested, the defective capstan springs have been replaced, and the reassembled units have been tested and reshipped to the construction site. The attached pages identify the shock arrestors of each type (PSA-1 and PSA-3) which were found to contain deficient springs. These units are included in the final engineering evaluation which is in progress.
This letter contains no proprietary information and may be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
