Dear Mr. Spessard:

DOCKETS 50-266 and 50-301 INSPECTION REPORT 50-266/83-21 and 50-301/83-20 SPECIAL INSPECTION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 Your letter of February 21, 1984 presented your findings resulting from the special inspection of the quality assurance program conducted at Point Beach Nuclear Plant in October and November 1983.

As you are aware from our previous discussions and meetings, we have been actively pursuing appropriate responsive actions since the exit interview on November 16, 1983.

Our staff has prepared a detailed response to each of the alleged violations, as well as responses to open items, unresolved items, and program weaknesses that you identified.

In the appandix to your letter of February 21, you indicated that consideration would be given to extending our response time.

In order to provide additional time for my personal review and that of other senior management, we request that the time for response be extended until April 2, 1984.

Your telephone approval of this request on March 21 is appreciated and makes a further reply to this request unnecessary.

Very truly yours, n
