AGREEMENT STATES PERSPECTIVE ON THE NATIONAL MATERIALS PROGRAM Stanley Fitch, Chair Organization of Agreement States, Inc.

What is the OAS?

A nonprofit, voluntary, scientific and professional society incorporated in the District of Columbia.

Membership consists of staff from Agreement States.

A mechanism for Agreement States to work with each other and with NRC by promoting cooperation and communication.

Prepares, disseminates, and promotes the exchange of information on Agreement State matters.

The Future of the NMP Alliance The pilot projects demonstrate the suitability and viability of the NMP. Integration challenges remain.

Separate, autonomous organizations must be meshed into a single, coordinated program that meets varied priorities.

The States have long sought greater opportunity for effecting materials regulation. The NMP widens the regulatory resource pool.

NMP means optimized resources that more closely represent business and the public.

Commitment Committed resources are necessary to create products that are attractive and appropriate for the NMP alliance as a whole.

The OAS endorses the vision of an NMP that embraces the collective diversity of our membership and NRC.

The OAS will act intrinsically to facilitate the participation of its membership and commit our resources to this cause.
