Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly

-Gentlemen:

In our previous correspondence on this subject Georgia Power Company indicated that, following meetings with some of the vendors involved, a schedule would be developed for the resolution of concerns with the quality of welds and radiographs and for the submittal of conclusions reached con-cerning the reportability of this matter to the USNRC.

It was also indi-cated that this information would be submitted to the USNRC in an interim report on or about June 29, 1984.

Due to the number of vendors involved, Georgia Power Company will evaluate the welds and radiographs of each on an individual basis and then combine the individual evaluations into a final report on the general concern. We have been advised by our architect-engineer, Bechtel Power Corporation, that the last vendor evaluation will be completed and an engineering evaluation report made available on November 30, 1984.

Based on this information, Georgia Power Company expects to submit a final report on the general concern of this matter to the USNRC by January 18, 1985.

In addition, Georgia Power Company will submit an interim report on September 28, 1984, to keep the USFRC informed of the progress of our evaluations. Should any of the vendor evaluations conclude that a re-portable condition exists, Georgia Power Company will submit a report to the USNRC for that portion of the overall evaluation immediately upon re-ceipt of the information.

An evaluation of welds and radiographs performed by Anchor Darling Valve Company has already been completed. The evaluation concluded that discrepancies identified in the Anchor Darling radiographs would not ad-versely affect the safe operation of the plant at any time during its

forty-year lifetime. The evaluation also determined that a significant breakdown in the Anchor Darling quality assurance program had not occurred.

The concern with the quality of welds and radiographs relative to the-Anchor Darling Valve Company is therefore not reportable pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e) or 10 CFR 21.

This response contains no proprietary information and may be placed in the I;PC Public Document Room upon receipt.
