S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N.

Dear Mr. Chairman:
A few weeks ago, I wrote to you regarding the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station and would like to again write and strongly urge that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission proceed as quickly as realistically possible to grant a full operating license.
It is my understanding that the NRC staff has recently taken action that would require the disassembly and inspection of one or both of the two diesel generators at Grand Gulf.
This would appear to be an arbitrary decision, since based on information provided to me, these two generators have previously been completely disassembled, inspected, refurbished, and tested, and it was confirmed that they will perform satisfactorily.
Furthermore, to compensate for the fact that problems have been discovered at other nuclear facilities, which question the reliability of the type of generators used at Grand Gulf, the company has enhanced the reliability of off-site power to the Grand Gulf site by, among other things, installing three portable combustion turbine generators, which would supply power to the site in an emergency.
Mr. Chairman, it would certainly appear to me that the owners have done everything possible to certify the technical correctness of Grand Gulf and have cooperated with the NRC in every way possible.
I would certainly hope this same spirit of cooperation would be forthcoming from the NRC and that the full operating license would be granted.
I certainly appreciate your consideration.
S\\ncerely, N
