Dear Mr. Martin:

This is in reply to your letter of 17 Apr 1984, subject: Emergency Preparedness Appraisal 50-170/34-01.

We have considered each of the four " improvement areas" identified in your report, Appendix A, " Emergency Preparedness improvement items" and have taken the following actions regarding each item:

1.

Emergency Preparedness Training:

We considered your recommendations of development of a training manual and of lesson plans and have decided to develop separate lesson plans for each group of response personnel. These lesson plans will be kept in a binder which will r,erve as the training manual. As part of the training program, provisions will be made for scheduling of training, attendance records, and lesson objectives. Off-site personnel training will place special emphasis on the biological effects of radiation.

The lesson plans we are developing are to be completed by 1 September 1984.

The training of reactor operators on control room habitability in emergency situations has been completed.

2.

P. ement of Run Cards on Response Fire Engines: Your recomment'ation has been implemented.

3.

Changes to Emergency Plan: Your recommendations were deemed acceptable, and changes have been approved and distributed.

4.

Evacuation Route Diagrams: Your recommendation was approved by the AFRRI Occupational Health and Safety Committee and is being implemented with an estimated completion date of 1 September 1984.
