[External_Sender] RE: Possession Limits RAI Date:
Friday, March 27, 2020 4:25:14 PM
Dear Ty,
On March 9, 2020 I received the electronic version of the RAI regarding the request to increase the NIST possession limits for Depleted Uranium and Americium-241. I informed the NIST IRSC Chair and the NIST Chief Safety Officer, both copied, that a response would be due on 4/8/2020. As we prepared to develop our response, the public health emergency due to COVID19 affected our ability to process IRSC review and approvals in a timely manner. Therefore, I am writing to formally request that your office gives NIST additional time to develop the response. At this point we do not see the need to pursue the increase for Depleted Uranium and we will provide via response to the RAI our rationale for the Am-241 increase.
I will consult with the IRSC Chair to see if now that NIST staff has been in full-telework mode for more than a week, perhaps we can start having electronic reviews in a timely manner.
Respectfully,
Manny
