Mr J G Keppler, Administrator US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 MIDLAND ENERGY CENTER MIDLAND DOCKET NOS 50-329, 50-330 IE BULLETIN 83-08, ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT BREAKERS WITH AN UNDERVOLTAGE TRIP FEATURE IN USE IN SAFETY-RELATED APPLICATIONS OTHER THAN THE REACTOR TRIP SYSTEM FILE 0505.12 SERIAL 28446 REFERENCE IE BULLETIN 83-08 This letter provides a complete response to IE Bulletin 83-08 for the Midland Nuclear Project. The subject bulletin pertains to circuit breakers similar to Westinghouse type DB and DS and GE type AK-2 which utilize mechanical undervoltage trip attachments.
Consumers Power Company has determined that the circuit breakers employed at the Midland Nuclear Plant are tripped electrically by undervoltage relays. Thus, the concerns of IE Bulletin 83-08 do not apply to the Midland Nuclear Plant.
The Staff is requested to contact us should any questions or comments arise regarding this response.
In lieu of Staff inquiry, no further response to this bulletin is planned for the Midland Project.
