Dear Mr. Bernthal:
March 28th marks the fifth anniversary of the accident at Tha; Mile Island.
As one of the York County Commissioners, I would like to take this oppor-tunity to express the concerns of many of my constituents.
Safety and personnel issues have been a paramount concern to many of York County residents.
Credibility was lost at the time of the accident, and it is difficult now to separate the facts from the propaganda for most lay people.
We do know, however, we do not want a repeat of five years ago.
Additionally, I must point out that there is also a large vocal group who totally oppose all nuclear power, the restart of Unit #1, as well as the cleanup of Unit #2.
For many York County residents, the accident, and the weeks following it, were filled with fear and mental anguish and I, as a public official, would be insensi-tive to these very real feelings, if I were not to share with you these concerns.
On behalf of these residents, I urge you not to allow Unit #1 at Three Mile Island to reopen until all safety and management questions have been satis-factorily resolved.
The generations of tomorrow may depend on the decisions that you make today.
Please give this your utmost consideration.
Sincerely,
. g, W Lorraine B. Hovis COUNTY COMMISSIONER LBH/paq j
