Duke Power Company McGuire Nuclear Station Catawba Nuclear Station Response to IE Bulletin 83-07 1.
Af ter a review by Duke Power Quality Ascurance-Venders Division, it was determined that neither McGuire or Catawba received materials from those companies identified in the bulletin or the bulletin supplements. However, it was determined that McGuire received apparently fraudulent Ray Miller, Inc.
materials from Pall Trinity Company of Cortland, New York. The material supplied to McGuire was Type 304 stainless 3" schedule 40 elbows which are used in Fuel Pool Cooling System filter holders.
2.
The McGuire Fuel PoolCooling System filter holders are designed to withstand 150 psig at 125'F.
The.3". elbows supplied and installed by Pall Trinity Company are located inside the filter holders where a hydroatatic test to 300 psig was successfully performed.
If a failure of the 3" elbow is post-ulated, the elbow would remain inside the filter holder and the integrity of the system would not be affected. Therefore it is planned to continue operation of McGuire with the Fuel Pool Cooling System in its present configuration.
3.
There is no Ray Miller, Inc. material in stock at McGuire or Catawba Nuclear Stations, therefore Item 3 does not require any action.
