Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Response to NRC Staff Coments on River Water / Diesel Generator Testing Technical Specification Change Request Gentlemen:
By. letter. dated January 4,1984, the NRC Staff requested additional information in response to Alabama Power Company's request for a permanent change to the River Water and Diesel Generator Technical Specifications dated December 30, 1982. Alabama Power Company provided the requested information in letter dated March 2,1984 During telephone conversations on March 21 and 22,1984, the NRC Staff provided comments and requested. supplemental information related to the subject request. Alabama Power Company provides herein a response to the requests identified during these telephone conversations.
The original technical specification request identified the maximum load for diesel generator 1C to be 46 kw above the continuous rating. In subsequent submittals, Alabama Power Company proposed to realign certain electrical loads thereby reducing diesel generator 1C loads below the continuous rating. Since the diesel generator 1C maximum load is not significant conpared to the diesel capacity (only two percent above the 1 continuous rating), Alabama Power Company agrees with the NRC that realignment of electrical loads is not necessary and the electrical realignment proposed in the March 2,1984 letter will not be implemented.
Alabama Power Company's proposed technical specification change reduced l
the diesel generator 2C automatically sequenced loads to 214 kw. The NRC l
Staff requested that' diesel generator 2C be maintained'at approximately 50 percent of the continuous rating or greater. Alabama Pewer Company concurs with the NRC Staff and will either operate diesel generator 2C as recommended by the diesel manufacturer which requires operation above 50 percent of the continuous rating, or will shift the 214 kw to the other diesel generators'.
