Subject:

LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 FSAR Changes Relating to the Startup Test Program Table 14.2-123 NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374 Reference (a):

Telephone Conversation with Bill Long (NRR) on March 5, 1984.

Dear Mr. Denton:

As a result of a revew of the FSAR a clarification was

-determined to be necessary to Table 14.2-123 (Relief Valve Startup Test Abstract).

The second paragraph in the description of the test abstract implies that the backpressure of the relief valve discharge lines will be measured during the Unit 1 Startup Test and the Unit 2 Startup Test.

This backpressure was measured during the Unit 1 Test Program but will not be measured during the Unit 2 test program.

The backpressure will not be monitored during the Unit 2 test because the instrumentation tapes required for the measurement which were installed on the Unit 1 piping, primarily for the Unit 1 In-Plant SRV Special Test, are not available on the Unit 2 piping.

Justification for the omission of this measurement from the Unit 2 test-is provided due to the fact that the relief valve discharge line piping arrangements are very similar between Unit 1 and Unit 2 and a large' margin to the criteria was observed during the Unit 1 testing.

Therefore, we have added a qualifying statement to the test cbstract that indicates this particular measurement is only applicable to

.the Unit 1 Startup Test Program.

This change has been included in Amendment 64 of the FSAR and has been tentatively agreed upon via our telephone conversation with Bill Long on March 5, 1984.

In accordance with License NPF-18, Condition 2.C.17 it is requested that you document to us your official agreement with this change.

If there are any questions regarding this matter, please contact this of fice.

Very truly yours l
