Dear Mr. Denton:

I am writing to you at the suggestion of Staff Counsel Bernard Bordenick. On March 20, 1984, the Long Island Light-ing Company (LILCO) filed a " Supplemental Motion for Low Power Operating License" in the Shoreham proceeding. Counsel for Suffolk County understands from conversations with Mr.

Bordenick that the Staff has commenced a review of LILCO's filing and that there may be discussions and/or meetings between the Staff and representatives of LILCO and that the Staff may be requesting further data from LILCO.

This letter is to request that Suffolk County be notified by the Staff in advance-of any discussions or meetings to be held by members of the Staff with representatives of LILCO, and that the County, and other interested parties such as the State of New York, be invited to participate in any such dis-cussions or meetings. Further, we request that the County promptly receive copies of.all documents received by the Staff in connection with this review and copies of all correspondence pertaining to this matter. Suffolk County intends to request a meeting with the NRC Staff concerning LILCO's filing and does not object to representatives of LILCO and other interested parties being present.

Sincerely yours, w fo.e A -

Lawrence Coe Lanpher Counsel to Suffolk County cc: Frank R. Jones, Deputy Suffolk-County Executive t Fabian G. Palomino, Special Counsel to the Governor Bernard M. Bordenick, Esq.
