Georgia Power Canpany (GPC) hereby provides the following information in response to the violation cited in NRC I&E Inspection Report Nos.
50-321/84-03 and 50-366/84-03 dated February 10, 1984.
7 tie violation applied only to Hatch Unit 1 and was cited as a result of the NRC inspection conducted on January 24-27, 1984 by Mr. B. R. Crowley of your office.
VIOLATION Technical Specification 6.8.1.c requires that procedures be implenented for surveillance of safety-related equipnent.
Paragraph XIII.c of INT Ur procedure 17r-2, requires that the circumferential reactor vessel. welds, ultrasonic scans be recorded relative to a zero point.
l Contrary to the above, on January 25, 1984, the ultrasonic inspection records for the " Fall.1982" inspection of ' reactor vessel flange to shell weld C-1 did not show the extent or location of the area inspected.

It should be ' noted that this was an isolated anission in a large anount of nondestructive exanination (NDE) data, and not a breakdown in procedural controls.

Corrective action that has been taken and results achieved:
After notification of the violation, appropriate NDE personnel were reninded of the importance of proper and emplete data recording.
Corrective steps that will be taken to avoid further violations:
On Deceber 29, 1983, Southern Cm pany Services procedure 17r-H-410 was implenented to cover the same scope of exminations as IMT procedure 17r-2.
'Ihe data sheet for this new procedure has more specific areas for recording the location of the scans.
Date when full empliance will be achieved:
GPC is attenpting to locate correlating information (i.e., insulation renoved in the area in question) that would substantiate performance of the exmination.
If such evidence cannot be found, the examination area will be inspected prior to startup fran the next Hatch Unit 1 refueling outage.
