s Mr. Benard Rusche April 16, 1975 limit is employed to avoid overexposure.

At the time the contractor employe left the site, it had been determined from dosimeter readings that a total exposure of 2.46 rem was received at Point Beach Nuclear Plant, which was well within the allowed 15% margin.

High exposures were expected since the radiation fields in the steam generator channel heads averaged 25 to 30 P./ hour.

To monitor personnel working in the high-radiation areas, all entries, exposure timekeeping, and exposure data were continuously recorded by health physics personnel stationed at the entrance to the steam generator channel heads.

Daily exposure summaries were maintained.

New high-range pocket dosimetry devices were used.

Drift and response checks were completed on these devices prior to use.

The contractor employe, in addition to the TLD monitoring devices issued at Point Beach Nuclear Plant, used a Company-issued TLD device.

Results of this TLD device indicated a total exposure for the month of March to be 1.7 rem.

Due to the high-radiation areas encountered and the work time in the areas, it is conservative to assume that the 3.1 rem exposure is correct and results in an actual quarterly overexposure of 0.100 rem.

As a matter of interest, the contractor employe involved is the senior contractor supervisor who was in charge of the work being performed.

It is believed that all avenues of administrative approach to control radiation exposure in high radiation areas have been undertaken and no corrective action is required.

The discrepancies in the monitoring devices remain unanswered and the corrective action undertaken by Point Beach Nuclear Plant in this respect will be additional surveillance of the vendor's TLD analysis programs.

No other occasions of discrepancy between pocket dosimetry devices and TLD results beyond the 15% margin have been experienced.

As an additional measure to prevent a recurrence of this type event, redundant high-range pocket dosimetry devices will be incorporated as part of the requirements for'high-radiation area entries of this type.

Very truly yours, D
