Dear ifr. Lear:

DOCKET NOS. 50-266 A'lD 50-301 FLOODING RESULTING FROM FAILURES OF N0:1-CATEGORY I EQUIPMErlT POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT - UNITS 1 AND 2 In our letter of February 17, 1975, we slbmitted an analysis of flooding potential fron non-Catecory I systems and equipment at Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units l' and 2.

With that submittal, we inforned you of our intent to construct a flood barrier between monitor tank T100 and notor control canter 2B42, to protect 2242 from a possible ructure of the tank during a seismic event. The tank was not purchased as Category I equipnent.

Subsequently, during our review prior to fabrication of the barrier, we determined that th'e original configuration could not be installed with adequate strength to withstand the tank rupture. Pe'have develooed and are subnittinq herewith a revised design for the barrier, and we are currently in the process of purchasing material for the work.

During the review of the barrier wall we also established that the eight inch service water piping in the area of 2B42 that was installed in 1973 as part of the Point Beach waste disposal modification was not restrained as a Category I system. He intend to upgrade the line by the addition of sufficient restraints to oreclude any adverse effect on 2S42 during a seisnic event. The design of these restraints is currently in progress.

~

The installation of the revised monitor tank shield wall and the seismic restraints on the service water line will be completed by July 31, 1975.

Very truly yours, m swl;

{-.
