y. SALEM UNIT 2 OPERATIONS

SUMMARY

REPORT JANUARY 1984 Unit No.'2 remained shutdown through January, as repairs to the generator continued. Major items accomplished include: soldering, testing, Land insulating the' stator cooling coil connections; flushing of the stator cooling water system; and performance of the generator stator DC High Potential, and Phase Lead Bump Tests. Accelerometers have been installed on selected stator cooling water hoses to monitor ' for Lvibration which could result from generator operation. A series of tests will be conducted with the generator operating at 1800 RPM, but not synchronized, in an effort to determine the source and -magnitude of any induced vibration. Due to the extreme cold weather conditions, which could have adversely affected the structural . integrity of the turbine crane, the rotor lift was delayed until JanuaryL23. Subsequently, the rotor was installed and reassembly of the. generator was commenced. Unit No. 2 is currently scheduled to return to service in mid-February. Page 7 of 8
