Discovery of incorrect setpoints on ADS confirmatory low level switches.
Condi tions Prior to Occurrence:
Unit i at approximately 100% power and Unit 3 at approx-imately 50% power.
7 Description of' Occurrence:
i As a result of the review of a suspected abnormal occurrence where LIS-3-2-3-83B was found to be set at +11 inches rather than $+6 inches,L a typographical error in the Technical Specifications was identified (:+6 inches should have been 1+6 inches). The existence f hh2 741207 N300 05000277 S

Mr. A. Giambusso Occember 7, 1974 Page 2 this typographical error was confirmed via telephone conversations' wi th Mr. Walt Baunack--Regulatory Operations who had discussed the probicm wi th Mr. Lear and Mr. Jaffe--Di rectorate of Licensing.
The typograph-
{ cal error had been carried into the surveillance test procedure, which was used to calibrate these switches. The switches were there-fero set to trip between 0 inches and 6 inches reactor Icvel because the instrument span is 0 to 60 inches.
Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:
Typographical error in Technical Specifications.
Analysis of Occurrence:
The safety implications of this error are minimal. These switches would have functioned correctly to confirm reactor low 1cvel and thus permi t ADS operation if required, or would have proven that reactor icvel was satisfactory, thus preventing ADS operation caused by an instrument line failure. However, the switches would have operated at slightly Icss than 6 inches rather than slightly more than 6 inches reactor level.
Corrective Action:
The switches were reset to a setpoint 2+6 inches in accor-dance with approved revisions of the appropriate surveillance tests.
The typographical error in the Technical Specifications will be corrected, railure Data:
None.
Very truly yours, r
1.
