ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATIVE TO GEORGIA POWER COMPANY REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION FROM 10 CFR 50. APPENDIX J TYPE A TEST SCHEDUI,E FOR UNIT 1 Gentlemen:
By letter dated May 12,1995, Georgia Power Company (GPC) requested an exemption from i
10 CFR 50, Appendix J schedule requirements for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP),
i Unit 1, to provide for exclusion of the next Type A test which is currently scheduled to be l
performed during the IR6 refueling outage in February and March,1996. The test would be rescheduled in accordance with the new criteria (Option B) of the anticipated 10 CFR 50, Appendix J rule change. This letter is in response to the NRC stafi's interest, as expressed in a.
telephone conversation on June 28,1995, concerning GPC's plans for performance of the l
general containment inspection as specified in Section V.A of 10 CFR 50, appendix J if the l
requested exemption is granted.

i If the exemption is granted, GPC will perform the general containment inspection during the j
1R6 refueling outage in a manner similar to the inspections that are normally performed pnor i
to a Type A test, even though the Type A test will not be perfonned.
