Mr. Victor Stello, Jr.

50-277/278-76-19 April 12, 1976 Page 2 Description of Deviation:

The "E" fan on the "B" cooling tower tripped due to a high vibration si gnal.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Deviation:

' Worn motor bearings and seized line bearing box.

Analysis of Deviation:

Due to the reduced plant power level and the remaining capacity of the "B" cooling tower with nine fans still operable no change beyond the limits of background variations in measured discharge temperature was observed.

Corrective Action:

The "L" fan was returned to service on April 2,1976 thus restoring the cooling tower to operable status.

Failure Data:

Several previous similar occurrences.

Very truly yours, i

M.
