  • January 28, 1977 Page 2 Designation of Accarent Cause The sample was taken during a period of high flow. The greater than normal water input came from increased usage due to the Unit 3 Refueling Outage.

This high flow period carried solids over the aeration tank into the chlorine contact tank and from there into the effluent. The followup samples after the flow had returned to normal were within Technical Specifications limits.

Analysis of Deviation:

This condition existed for a short period. Because the sewage plant flow was diluted by a factor of 50,000 with circulating water flow at the time, the suspended solids of the circulating water leaving the discharge canal was not affected. Therefore, the environmental impact was min b l.

Corrective Action:

The chlorine contact tank was cleaned and the settled solids were removed. A concerted effort between Peach Bottom staff and Betz Environmental Engineers, Inc. is underway to prevent deviations caused by the sewage plant.

Failure Data:

Very truly yours, M.
