This letter is written in response to our telephone conversation of July 27, 1973, relative to hydraulic shock suppressors in service on snfety related piping nyatets at the Vercont Enkee site, e
Inf ormation in submitted as follows:
1.
liydraulic shock r.uppreucors ceployed at Verront Yankee are Grinnell Co., Inc., rigure 200, with transparent fluid reservoiro.
2.
Our existing surveillance program is that prior to startup following an extended cold shutdown involving drywell entry, all suppressors are visually inspected in the proccas of drywell closcout prior to establishing pricary containment integrity.
Inspections of this nature were performed and documented on the following datco:
3/28/72, 6/24/72, 7/25/72, 8/18/72, 9/10/72, 2/8/73, and 2/27/73.

Additionally, plant operating personnel, as a part of their routine coverage of operating equipment, are inatructed to observe all.iccessible devices of this nature for indications of leakage and fluid reservoir level.
4.
A visual inspection was performed on July 27, 1973, by plant engineering personnel to verify the above referenced areas.
The renulto of this inspection of 21 suppressors which were accessible during plant operation indicated that all were satiof actory as found.
