Dear Sir:

As defined by Technical Specifications for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station, Section 6.7, we are reporting the following Abnormal Occurrence as A0-75-14 and confirming our conversation with lir. D. Sternberg of your office, who was present at the time.

At 1020 on July 25, 1975, while performing the monthly liigh Pressure Coolant Injection (IIPCI) System pump operability surveillance test, the head gasket on the gland seal exhaust condenser fallec}. This condenser iu t ey ulfwl lor proper operation of the llPC1 System and its loss precludes the HPCI operability required by Section ').5.E.1.a of the Technical Specifications. The reactor was operating at approximately 80% power at the time of this incident.

Replacement of the failed gasket was initiated immediately.

Concurrently, the operability verification required by Section 4.5.E.2 of Technical Specifications was begun.

The condenser was repaired and the llPCI System was tested and -

verified operabic at 1326 on July 25, 1975. -
