By. letter dated November 16, 1993, Waterford 3 requested an exemptionLto the requirements of 10CFR50, Appendix J, Section III.D. The letter requested an exemption to the periodic test schedule for Type A testing

that requires a set of three Type A tests to be performed at approximately equal intervals during each 120-month inspection interval. The referenced j
request _ constitutes a permanent exemption to the Appendix J criteria to allow Waterford 3 to perform one Type A test during a 120-month interval.

The purpose of this letter is to modify 'the initial proposal such that the exemption request coincides with the current NRC approved extension (NRC letter dated August 2 1994) of the Waterford 3 120-month inspection interval. As such, an exemption to Appendix J Type A Testing criteria for one fuel cycle is requested. Upon approval of this request Waterford 3 will be exempt from the 10CFR50, Appendix J, Type A Test requirements until April 1997 or Refuel 08, which ever comes first. The' justification i
provided in letter dated November 16, 1993 remains in effect and adequately j
bounds this proposal.
