June 12, 1995 Technical Specification Section 3.14 U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: ' Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISIAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PIANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Report of Fire Protection Pump Removed from Service for Greater Than Seven Days This special report is being submitted in accordance with Prairie Island Technical Specification 3.14.B.2. On May 15, 1995 the 121 Motor Driven Fire Pump was taken out of service due to a failed transformer in the pump control circuitry. The control circuit ,

components are being removed, inspected, and replaced as necessary to correct  ;

the problem. Repair of the pump control circuitry is continuing and has required more than seven days to complete.

Due to the nature of the failure, the Motor Driven Fire Pump is available for service, but will not be declared operable until control functions are restored and the pump is adequately tested. During the time the Motor Driven Fire Pump is and has been out of service, either the 122 Diesel Driven Fire Pump or the 121 Screenwash Pump have been operable. In addition, the plant has the ability to crosstie the cooling water system to the fire header for a back-up suppression supply.
