Supply System letter, G.D. Bouchey to Harold R. Denton, NRC, " Construction Permit Extension-WNP-1,"

dated January 11, 1983.

In reference 1 we indicated a plan and schedule for resolution of the reactor coolant pump trip issue for WNP-1 would be provided by July 1, 1983.

On June 28, we informed Mr. Mohan Thadani of the Staff that our response would Se late but we would reply in July.

In view of the extended WNP-1 construction delay discussed in reference 2, we have decided to delay submittal of the plan and schedule until construction restart.

It should be understood that with construction of WNP-1 currently in suspension, we will not be making any additions to the plant prior to restart that would make a hardware resolution of this issue more difficult.

We do concur with the Staff's desire expressed in Generic Letter 83-10e that applicants work through Owners Groups for similar solutions.

We will follow the progress of the B&W Owners Group to aid in the development of the WNP-1 plan for resolving the pump trip issue.
