Sub.j ect: Preventative Maintenance fuggestions for the RC-RV2

/

' Pressurizer Electromagnetir Zelief Yalve i

. ' r,7 '

Dear Mr. Herbein:

B&W has had experience at other sites with ccrrosion products causing the pressurizer electro:ssnetic relief " salve (3C-RV2). operator lever

~

arn to remain in the ported position after actuation of the relief.

This fa'ilur's prevented valve closing vhich caused overpressurization

~

of the RCUT and rupture dis: actuatics. It could also have violated the fuel conpression requireisents, RCP-3PSH requiremen'ts, a=d cool--

dovu rate.

a-E&V therefore suggests that RC-R72 (Pressuri:er Electromag= etic relief valve) be inspected periodically for corrosion products and fol-free-do:s of novament with respect to the lever. pin and lever hi'nge noting -

,g,

e clearances with the solenoid bracket.

B&W also suggests thr.t the preventacive maintenance progrsn on this valve li include the above provision with periedic clean-up as necessary.
