$0 306 DPR 60 Clarification of Response to Generic Letter 82 33 Sopolement 1 to NUREC 0737 - Reauirements For Emergency Resmonse Cnp3bility This letter is provided to update our response to Generic Letter 82 33,

" Supplement 1 to NUREC 0737 Requirements For Emergency Response capability",

with respect to a discrepancy identified during an NRC Region III Inspection at Prairie Island on the imple. mentation of Regulatory Guide 1.97.

On page 11 of Table 1 in our response to Generic Letter 82 33, dated September 15, 1983, we committed to install containment sump water level instrumentation with a range of 0 to 12 feet.

This instrumentation was installed in the Unit 2 containment with the committed range.

However, due to physical constraints in the Unit 1 Containment Building we were unable to install the containment sump water level instrumentation with the full 0 to 12 foot range.

The range of the containment sump water level instrumentation installed in the Unit 1 containment is 0 to 11 feet 6 inches.

Based on the maximum containment water level anticipated as a result of a large break LDCA, approximately 6 feet 6 inches, the slightly reduced range of the containment sump water level instrumentation does not affect the safe operation of Prairie Island Unit 1.

We apologize for any inconvenience this discrepancy may have caused.

Please contact us if you have any questions related to Prairie Island containment sump water vel instrumentation.
