Dear Mr. O'Neill,

Enclosed is a copy of a letter and an enclosure which I have received from one of my constituents, Mr. Peter W. Steketee.

Mr. Steketee feels that the public should know the facts about the "N-Plant Radioactivity Leaks into Big Lake."

He feels that the location, the nature of the leakage, the amount of radioactive elements' released, sheild be made known to the public. He would like this information accessible to anyone who wishes to review it.

I would very much appreciate having the benefits of your comments regarding this request.

Warmest personal regards.

Sincere y,

/

Ford House of Representatives Capitol B,uilding Washington, D.C.

Dear Representative Ford:

I am enclosing copies of two articles from the Grand Rapids Press, one entitled, "N-Plant Radioactivity Leaks Into Big Lake" d :-: 1.e d J a. n ual.1 27, 1973, r.d th: -ctitcr 2:;titicd, " con-sumers Aide Hits N-Plant Leak ' Scare'" dated January 29, 1973.

I would appreciate it if you could obtain for me from the Atomic Energy Commission a report on this matter.

I believe that the public is entitled to know the nature and location of q

the leak and the amount or radioactivity released from the stack of the plant and in the cooling water or otherwise (broken down, if known, into actual amounts of radioactive elements released),

with the total amount of radioactivity of each type of release expressed in some definite form, such as Curies, rather than in Atomic Energy Commission cliches, such as " extremely small" or "well within Atomic Energy Commission guidelines. "

I also think the public ought to have access to information relating to the extent of, and results of, monitoring on site and off site by the Company or the Atomic Energy Co;nission or both, before, during and after the incident, again with actual measurements detailed in the report.

Thank you for any help you are able to give me in this connection.

Very, truly yourf
