PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC COMPANY 23ol M ARKET STREET P.O. BOX 8699 PHILADELPHIA. PA.191o1 SHIELDS L DALTROFF ELtcTstsc Pn CTION April 30, 1984 Docket No. 50-277 Dr. Thomas E. Murley Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406

SUBJECT:

I.E.Bulletin 80-07

Dear Dr. Murley:

The purpose of this letter is to provide an update regarding the issue of Jet Pump Beam Cracking with respect to Peach Bottom Unit 2.

It is our current plan to replace all of the jet pump beams with heams having improved heat treatment and 25 Kip preload during the upcuming outage scheduled to start April 27, 1984.

Subsequent to this replacement, it is requested that the inspection requirement of Bulletin 80-07 be suspended.

Information provided by GE, cor.tained in NEDE-24362-1 dated December, 1981, indicates that beams receiving the improved heat treatment and installed with a 25 Kip preload should not experience cracking during the remaining lifetime of the unit.

Shoul'd you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Very truly *ours,
