Dear Mr. Johnson:
The Reference provided Kansas Gas and Electric Company's (KG&E) response to the Notice of Violation documented in Inspection Report STN 50-482/
84-05.
This letter provides a clarification to one of the statements in the Reference concerning the corrective steps taken by KG&E.
In the last sentence under Response a) on page two of the Reference, KG&E stated that "The practice of using nylon screws as isolators by Construction has been terminated and is no longer authorized." The intent of this statement was to indicate that Construction would no longer have a " blanket" directive to install nylon screws. KG&E does intend to continue using nylon screws and in some caseu these screws will be installed by the Constructor. However, the Constructor will not be authorized to install nylon screws unless specifically directed on a case-by-case basis by KG&E Startup. Startup will then maintain traceability of Constructor installed nylon screw.; in accordance with Administrative Procedure ADM 14-405, "Te'mporary Modification Control" and/or other approved tracking mechanisms to assure that the isolators get removed.
