The contractor Equipment Business Operations of the General Electric ' -s Company has determined that a reportable defect exists on certain of its ' '

AK-25, AKR-30 and. AKR-50 Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breakers. The  :

following is a text of our notification for your use as necessary:

It has come to our attention that AK-25, AKR-30, and AKR-50 i Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breakers equipped with '

electro-mechanical trip units may contain .assen611es improperly l manufactured such that the circuit breaker fails to trip as  !

intended. These circuit breakers are used in direct current  !

applications. '

The General Electric Company proposes to correct this  !

potential problem in all Nuclear Class IE applications. The  ;

l correction will consist of returning the devices in question to j l the factory for inspection, repair and re-assen61y as necessary, and re-testing to ensure proper operation. General Electric personnel are presently reviewing their files to determine which Nuclear facilities have these breakers and will soon be  ;

contacting the affected Nuclear sites to arrange for the  :

corrections at a mutually convenient time.  !

The potentially affected circuit breakers were manufactured from mid-1976 until March,1983. Only the AK-25 AKR-30, and

units are involved. ,
