Mr. James R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3

SUBJECT:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units No. 2, Docket No. 50-318 Telephone conference meeting between NRR, Operating Reactors Assessment Branch respresentatives and BG&E to discuss proposed License Amendments to the Unit 2 Auxiliary Feedwater System

REFERENCE:

(a)

BG&E Letter from A. E. Lundvall, Jr. to Mr. James R. Miller dated April 9,1984.

Gentlemen:

This transmittal serves to document the agreements made during a recent telephone conference meeting held on May 2,1984, between BG&E and NRC representatives concerning the proposed License Amendments forwarded by Reference (a). As a result of these discussions, we understand that NRR plans to issue an expedited License Amendment for Unit 2 that would essentially reflect the proposed changes made in Reference (a) with one major exception. As discussed during the meeting, the exception involves changing the allowed out-of-service times for a motor driven and steam driven AFW pump from 14 days and 30 days, respectively, to 7 days for any AFW pump.

This change was negotiated to expedite the review and approval of Reference (a) in order l

to support the current Unit 2 outage time frame. We understand that NRR plans to continue their review in light of the new Technical Specification guidance issued in Generic Letter 83-37 and additional information we plan to submit in support of the out-of-service times proposed in Reference (a). Based on the results of this review and further negotiations, the Limiting Conditions for Operation of the AFW System Technical l

Specifications will be revised at a future date to reflect an appropriate and mutually I

agreeable out-of-service time that recognizes the specific design of the Calvert Cliffs facility.
