Abnormal Occurrence 74-8: An unplanned relcase of radioactive material from the site boundary
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
13, 1974 This is to confirm my conversation with Mr. Walter Baunack on May to report Abnormal Occurrence 74-8 at Cinna Station.
On May 11, 1974, a liquid leak in the outict piping from the "A". Mixed Bed Demineralizer (CVCS System) in the Auxiliary Building relcased gases to' the Auxiliary Building atmosphere. These radioactive gases eventually went out the plant vent.
During the 12-hour period between midnight and noon on May 11, 1974, the plant vent released radioactive gases at the rate of.667. of the Technical Specification limit. Between noon and midnight on May 11, 1974, the release rate was.337. of the Technical Specification limit. The highest release rate was 1.637. of the Technical Specification limit and this occurred between 1300 and 1400 on May 11, 1974 just prior to the isolation of the leak. With-in two hours after the leak was isolated, the plant vent release rate had returned to its previous level of ~0.17. of the, Technical Specification limit. -
