CASE 2 Torus S-ray Llvo Mo-1501-183 This valve is normally closed.
Curing surveillance testing on Decenbar 9,1970 the valve opened procerly as required to inja t water into the torus nyrny hender, and closed ;roperly following the test.
I!o :ever,
when the valvo re.ched the closed position the breaker trip; e:1 It was found that the clocing torque vas cet to high, causing the breaker to trip on closing.
The torque switch setting ras adjusted to trip properly at a value lower than the brenker trip setting on recenber 11,197c.
Previous functional tests of the valve operation had been satisfc.ctory and it is concluded that the torque sotting had been too close to the breaker cvarlocd setting.
CASE 3 Cont =iy;rs-t Coolin;- Heat D:chnncer Evw ss ' hive !!O-1501-113 This vulve is nornal3y closed, nr.d is decigned to open on LFCI initiation signal tc, reduce system head locs through the heat orchanger.
Durin;; surveillance testing on ccenber 9,1970 tho eclve failed to open, although operation ned hocn norr.a1 during previous eparations.
Repeat epor.tions rere normal.
Hocever, the closing and opening toq ue limits vero readjusted to provide adlition:1 margin between the closing torque and opening torque trip settings.
The closed linit sr.ritch was also adjusted, Cn January 6, during cystem operational surveillance test +he valve stopped uhile closing rnrulting in the valve net seating tightly.
It was fcund that
{
the locking nut en the stem drivo nut had moved as a result of loosening of
)
the staked thre-d on the lock nut.
The pcsition limit cettings vere i
re djusted and proper velve cperaticn was verified.
1 The vnriety of circumstances caucing impropar valve.cperation is partially the recult of difficulty in adjusting the torque end position lir.its to the proper cetting.
Reco merdatior " rom the m,nufacturer have not solved this problem.
Additionel es.hasis is bein,? placed on inscoction and cdjustment during routino mintenence of all limitor no va2 vos.
